Gen1 MOPAR E-body are somewhat rare in today’s marketplace. Chrysler Corporation did not produce as many ‘pony” cars as GM and Ford. This restored 1973 MOPAR began life as a Challenger ‘Rallye’ 340, but it has been the beneficiary of serious mechanical upgrades. The exterior re-spray (2007) of Top Banana Yellow is in very good condition, as is the black vinyl top. A Challenger Rallye 340 hood, black paint accents, period-correct American Racing alloy wheels and a mean stance complete the exterior package. Inside, the black vinyl interior has also been refreshed. Seats have been reupholstered and accents include wood-grain trim, tinted windows and AM/FM stereo. Door cards, carpeting and headliner are all in great condition. That said, this MOPAR is all about muscle. The original, matching number 340ci small-block has been built to perform. Use of a 4340 stroker crank w/Wiseco pistons created a 416ci monster. It is fitted with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake, solid-lifter Comp cam, roller rockers, Holley Mighty Demon 850cfm carb, MSD ignition and 8-qt pan. Exhaust is routed through TTi custom headers and a 3” stainless exhaust system. The 416 is mated to a TCI Super Street automatic w/Super Street torque converter that transfers power to an Auburn Pro Series differential with 3.91:1 Richmond gears and NHRA approved axles. Caltrac rear springs, Caltrac traction bars and QA1 shocks plant the power. The chassis is fitted with a T/A power steering box and power disc/drum brakes. If you want an old-school Challenger that is built to run, take a look at this one – it is the business.
